SICSA crowd-funding raises $8K in 48 hours

UPDATE @ 7:50 p.m.:

SICSA’s first-ever crowd-funding campaign raised more than $8,000 in less than 48 hours.

The “Clean Cuddle Campaign” was launched Wednesday to help pay for an industrial washing machine.

“We’re pleasantly shocked and tremendously grateful for the fast-acting support of our donors during SICSA’s time of need,” Nora Vondrell, executive director for the Society for the Improvement of Conditions for Stray Animals.

FIRST REPORT

SICSA has announced its “Clean Cuddle Campaign” to replace its washing machine with a new, industrial strength one that can withstand the daily use to keep animals healthy and comfortable.

SICSA’s washing machine is unexpectedly on the brink of failure, due to an irreparable crack in the drum that will result in the machine becoming unusable very soon.

Last year, SICSA cared for more than 1,600 homeless pets at its adoption center, 2600 Wilmington Pike.

At any time, the facility holds up to 40 dogs and 90 cats.

SICSA washes about 12 loads of laundry per day, or 4,380 loads annually.

SICSA needs fresh laundered material for the adoptable animals in its care.

It also needs to provide clean, sanitized towels for the thousands of animals who visit the spay/neuter clinic every year.

In addition, the foster care providers borrow clean bedding while they care for kittens, puppies and special needs animals in their homes.

SICSA relies on its washing machine to keep the animals’ bedding, blankets, towels, and toys clean and fresh, which is essential in a shelter environment.
