A crowd of more than 200 people attended a rally Saturday afternoon at Courthouse Square to remember the 2014 police shooting death of John Crawford III inside a Beavercreek Walmart.
The rally featured several musical acts and speakers who urged attendees to push for justice and to vote. They also expressed thanks to the Ohio Student Association and Black Lives Matter.
The rally comes two days after the attorney for the Crawford family called for an end to the U.S. Department of Justice investigation into the fatal police shooting Aug. 5, 2014. At the time of the shooting, Crawford 22, had an air rifle he pulled off the store shelves and was talking on a cellphone while shopping at Walmart.

In July 28 letter, attorney Michael Wright asked Attorney General Loretta Lynch to conclude the probe and announce the results before the end of August, stating “The delay in completing this investigation has impeded the family’s efforts to obtain justice through a civil rights lawsuit filed against the city of Beavercreek and the officers responsible for John’s death.”
A Greene County grand jury did not indict the officer who shot Crawford, and charges also were not filed against the 911 caller who brought police to the store.
