A Richmond mother was shot in the face and her three-year-old daughter Duct taped to a couch Tuesday night.
"We heard a noise and it sounded like a gunshot, but it wasn't real loud," the victim's sister Takeia Holland told us.
Officers responded to apartment 11B in the 800 block of North 17th Street around 9:35 p.m. and discovered the victim, Christina Hampton, 22, with a gunshot wound to the face.
According to Richmond Police, Hampton was transported to Reid Hospital in Richmond and later transferred to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis aboard medical helicopter.
Holland said her sister's daughter was Duct taped to a couch inside the apartment when officers responded to the scene.
"It's heartless and it's crazy," Holland said while standing outside her apartment at the Robert F. Smith Apartments. "It's sickening that they would do that to a kid."
The three-year-old girl was not injured during the incident, Holland said, and it's not clear if she saw her mother being shot.
Jonny Mae, who identified herself as Hampton's cousin, said she's lived in Richmond for years and Tuesday's violence was disturbing.
"Too much is going on. Too many lives are being claimed, too many innocent bystanders, and I want Richmond to be like it was when I moved here 20 years ago," Mae said.
Police have not released many details about a potential shooter or shooters, but said witnesses observed two black men leaving the apartment following the gunshots.
