It was “30 seconds of mayhem” when a strong storm hit a Beavercreek neighborhood, less than a mile from where a tornado touched down.
The winds damaged trees, power lines and roofs in the Vineland Trail neighborhood yesterday evening.
Streets crews and workers from Dayton Power and Light were out this morning cleaning up. Roads were passable for the morning commute but some people remain without power.
Resident Richard Burham was home when the storm moved through.
“It got dark suddenly,” said Burham, whose house was hit by a tornado in 1968 before he purchased it.
“I just saw a white wall coming and the trees in the backyard actually started to twist,” he said.
He and his family ran to a safe part of their house.
Vineland resident John Ollier said he and his family watched the trees bending in their backyard, as well.
“You can’t prepare for 30 seconds of mayhem,” he said.
There were no reports of injuries in their neighborhood.
