Investigator called to Dayton vacant house fire

UPDATE @ 1:49 a.m.:

A fire that broke out inside a locked and boarded vacant house is suspicious, Deputy Chief Scott Rowlett of the Dayton Fire Department said.

Dayton firefighters were called around 1 a.m. to a report of a fire with visible flames and smoke in the 100 block of South McGee Street.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Rowlett said it was suspicious because the vacant two-story house was well secured, with its doors and windows locked and boarded.

“The fire originated in a rear room in the rear of the structure,” Rowlett said.

An investigator was called early this morning to a fire that broke out at a vacant two-story house.

Dayton firefighters responded around 1 a.m. to the 100 block of South McGee Street, where a fire reportedly started in back of the house.

The fire was quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
