#1 Wayne Warriors Welcome Home party

The Huber Heights community welcomed back their Division I State Champion Wayne Warriors Boys Basketball team tonight at 6 p.m. at the high school.

The Warriors beat Westerville South 65-57 at Ohio State University’s Schottenstein Center in front of 10,664 basketball fans.

Wayne has a lot to be proud of, considering the school became one of the rare Division I teams to play in both a football and basketball state championship in the same school year. The football Warriors lost to Lakewood St. Edward in the state title football game in December, and earned a measure of revenge by beating St. Ed 57-51 in OT in Friday’s state basketball semi finals.

The Welcome Back Celebration, 6 to 6:45 p.m., happened in the main gym, according to the school’s web site.

Following the celebration, the Winter Awards Night honored athletes beginning at 7 p.m. at the school’s cafe.
