A teenager driver and his two passengers were injured in a single-vehicle accident that occurred when he swerved to avoid a collision and hit a tree.
Simon Cougill, 16, was at the wheel and his mother and brother were the passengers, according to a statement from the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department released Friday night.
The preliminary investigation reveals that Simon was headed west on U.S. 36 when a vehicle entered the intersection at Indiana Road 1 from the north, according to the sheriff’s department.
When he swerved, he lost control of the vehicle. It continued off the south side of the road and struck a tree in a yard of a home in the 9000 block of U.S. 36 about 3:30 p.m.
The teenager was treated at the scene and released.
Ginger Cougill, 42, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital. Lane, 7, was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available.
