Stakeout of Relax Inn yields drug bust

A 44-year-old city man is to be in court Wednesday on charges accusing him of committing felony drug offenses at the Relax Inn.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said Arthur Radford was seen Tuesday afternoon leaving the inn, 2207 W. Main St., which was under surveillance, and get into a parked vehicle.

The surveillance effort, which began Feb. 27 and continued through Tuesday based on tip information, was focused on the room Radford came out of, sheriff’s Maj. Russell Garman said in a prepared statement released Tuesday night.

They searched Radford, his vehicle and his motel room and seized 5 grams of crack cocaine, 4 grams of heroin, a loaded .380-caliber automatic pistol and $1,300 cash.

Deputies and Springfield police stopped the vehicle, which was being driven by Radford, on several suspected traffic violations, Garman said.

Radford remained in the Clark County Jail on Tuesday night, charged with drug trafficking and possession.
