ID released of man’s body found after snow melt

UPDATE @ 1:50 p.m.

Police said a construction worker discovered the body of 55-year-old Zachary Watkins, of Arnold Place in Dayton.

He was reported missing on Monday, according to the Dayton police report.

Police said there were no signs of foul play.

Watkins’ body was found lying on his back and it appeared he had been there for a few days buried under snow, according to the report.

The coroner’s office is expected to do an autopsy and make a preliminary determination of cause of death on Thursday.

UPDATE @ 11:30 a.m.

An autopsy won’t be conducted until Thursday because of the frozen condition of the body, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s investigator.

The body is that of a black male. The identity is not being released, pending notification to the person’s family.

FIRST REPORT

The body of a male who was covered with snow until this morning was found near downtown Dayton.

Dayton police said the death was revealed after snow had melted in the area of West First Street and Maxwell Drive.

The body was found and reported at approximately 8:40 a.m.

An investigator with the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office responded and recovered the body.
