DAYTON — One of Dayton’s most colorful characters is retiring and selling everything he can in his eight-story liquidation outlet.
Longtime downtown businessman Sandy Mendelson told WHIO he’s having a ’Big Banana Box Sale.”
“We have banana boxes, a certain size, and it’s also $19.95. You can fill it up. Anything you want in this store. I don’t care, if you can fit it in the box, it’s yours.”
The store has an endless variety of merchandise for sale, including plates, mugs, clothing, washers and dryers, and even an F-16 trainer--with no engine.
The 800,000 square foot store is open Monday through Saturday from 8:30-5.
Once everything is sold, the store will close. A developer plans to turn the site Day Air Field into an entertainment district with apartments, and Marriott plans to build a Class A hotel.
Sandy Mendelson is 77. He said he’s planning to “lay back and do nothing.”
