A 4-year-old boy died Saturday night while apparently playing in a dumpster with other children in the Northland Village Apartments in Harrison Twp., according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department.

The child is identified as Amartye V. Williams. The boy died after sustaining injuries in a trash dumpster on Palisades Dr. just after 7 p.m. Saturday night.

An urgent 911 call from the Northland Village apartments brought medics to the scene.

Caller: "This little baby is hurt real bad out here. He's bleeding real bad."

Dispatcher: "Okay is he awake?"

Caller: "No, he's not awake, no, it's just everybody screaming."

Williams was taken to Dayton Children's Medical Center, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. He was pronounced dead at 7:41 p.m.

The family said the child was playing with his older brother, who ran back home and told his mother that another child had intentionally slammed the open dumpster door on the child.

Detectives confirmed they are looking into those claims, and at this point, they don't believe there was criminal intent. They say this could be a tragic accident.

People who live in the complex say they heard a group of kids playing on and around the large dumpster.

"It was slamming closed real loud, doom doom," said Joshua Edwards, "and then I was thinking in my head while I was walking with my little man that maybe somebody is going to get hurt on there."

The family, from Chicago, said that's where the child's funeral will be held.

Neighbors planned a vigil Monday night in the parking lot where the incident occured.

"We all need to come together as one and look out for each other," said Lelaa Seldon of Harrison Twp.
