Victims losing an average of $164K to scam that targets Chinese Americans

The FCC is warning of robocall scams that target Chinese Americans.

Callers claim to be from the Chinese Embassy or Consulate. They may ask for immediate payment for overdue credit cards or demand payment of fine for a package linked to a criminal investigation.

Between Dec. 2017 and Feb. 2019, the Internet Crime Complaint Center received more than 350 complaints from victims of this scam.

Victims are losing an average of $164,000, with a combined loss of more then $40 million.
