TROY — Slight changes have been made to Troy High School’s graduation requirements after the state passed House Bill 67.

H.B. 67 passed in March and allowed school districts to modify their graduation requirements because of how challenging this school year had been due to COVID-19.

In Troy, superintendent Chris Piper said there was a one credit difference between Troy’s requirement and the state’s. Piper said the district decided to take advantage and change the requirement.

The decision to change the requirement was not taken lightly, but Piper felt it was important to make the change.

“Students who are on that bubble or on that cusp of not being able to graduate because of that one elective credit didn’t seem quite fair,” Piper told News Center’s James Rider.

Piper said the changes do not effect many seniors in the district.

Troy will hold their high school graduation Saturday, May 29. The ceremony will be held outdoors at Troy Memorial Stadium.
