The walk takes place every October to help raise funds and promote breast cancer awareness, according to Benjamin Banning, Senior Development Manager for the Dayton Greater Market for the American Cancer Society.

“It impacts so many women,” Banning told News Center 7. “A quarter of million women every single year will be diagnosed with breast cancer. We have come together today (Saturday) with our pink to raise critical dollars for breast cancer research to programs and services that help our patients in the Dayton area.”

“One in eight women in their lifetime will hear the words, ‘you have breast cancer,’” said Lenora Oeters, Executive Director of the American Cancer Society. “We currently have $71 million funded in breast cancer research, patient support programs, getting people to and from the treatment that they need.”

Many people participated in the walk to honor loved ones who passed away from breast cancer.

One man tells us he’s been doing it for nine years and loves doing it.

“My sister fought breast cancer three times, she lost it this last time, “said Daryl. “My mom beat it twice. So, I’m pretty passionate about it.”

Nearly 10,000 people participated in last year’s walk.
