1. St. Vincent de Paul’s works to improve the lives of needy people and working to end poverty and homelessness

2. The organization serves homeless families, including children. St. Vincent de Paul sheltered 4,044 people who were homeless in 2015. The St. Vincent de Paul Shelter for Women and Families sheltered 913 children. On an average night in 2015, St. Vincent de Paul sheltered 70 homeless children, most under the age of six.

The organization’s supportive transitional housing program served 80 children, while the Kettering Commons permanent housing program served 31 youth. St. Vincent de Paul operates a food pantry that served more than 11,000 people last year.

The organization serves more than 100,000 people through all of its programs.

3. St. Vincent de Paul Social Service was created in December 1985 with the goal of providing emergency shelter services to homeless people. The group operates two shelters. One is the Gateway Shelter for Women and Families, which has 220 beds and operates 24 hours per day.

The Gettysburg Gateway for Shelter for men has 238 beds and is for single men. St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Enterprises also operates thrifts stores.

4. The shelters provide three meals per day, laundry services, shower facilities and other services.

St. Vincent de Paul has five housing programs, including supportive housing, permanent supportive housing, transitional housing and a Safe Haven program for people who are chronically homeless and have disabilities.

5. The shelters are funded primarily with private donations and state and local grants. St. Vincent de Paul received about $10.6 million in contributions and other forms of revenue in 2015 and spent almost $10.9 million.
