Police said one vehicle is a total loss, and at least two others sustained damage after a suspected drunk driver crashed into them.

Dayton police were dispatched to the 900 block of Wellmeier Drive around 2 a.m. on reports of a vehicle hitting a parked car.

Officers said a parked pickup truck was severely damaged and is considered a total loss. At least two other vehicles were also hit by the driver, but damage was considered minor.

The owner of the totaled truck, Janeen Slider, said she was sleeping when the crash happened, but watched as the driver tried to flee.

“As drunk as he was, he knew he was in trouble,” Slider said.

The driver was evaluated by medics, but declined treatment and is in police custody.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, but Slider believes the stretch of road could also be to blame.

“This stretch between of road on Wellmeier between Deenwood and Wyoming, the cars travel way to fast, because there’s no stop sign and no speed bump,” she said. “Perhaps this might help with evidence that we need something on that corner [of Deenwood and Wellmeier avenues].”

The incident remains under investigation by Dayton police.
