UPDATE @ 7:35 p.m.:

Two students taking a break from class said they saw part of what happened Monday evening that led to a manhunt in Dayton for a suspected armed robber.

The manhunt ensued after an encounter in the area of West Stewart Street and Edwin C. Moses Boulevard involving a police officer -- believed to be a UD police officer -- and a man suspected of taking a bicycle at gunpoint.

"As soon as she turned on her lights [of her police cruiser], he got off his bike," said Matthew Carnevale, one of the students from Ohio Medical Career College. "She got out of her vehicle and as soon as she got out, he walked toward her ... took a juke step and took off running."

The second OMCC student, Patrick Evans, said the man the officer stopped "looked like he was going to follow her [the officer's] orders, then jumped up and took off" running.

What seemed like scores of police officers arrived on scene soon thereafter, after a "signal 99" -- officer needs assistance -- was requested by the officer.

Neither man saw a weapon.

"I've never seen so many cops in one area," Carnevale said.

Police continue to work a large perimeter, in the area of West Stewart Street and Moses Boulevard, shut down, looking for the suspect.

We’ve learned the victims were a male and female. We’re hearing from UD police that the gunman pulled the weapon on the male and the bike is believed to belong to the female.
