State program looking to help Ohioans stay cool this summer

A state program is looking to help Ohioans keep cool during the summer months.

The Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program helps Ohioans with electric utility bills, central air condition units and/or fan purchases from July until September.

To be eligible you must have  a household income at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty guidelines and have a household member who is either:

  • 60 years of age and older
  • Can provide physician documentation that cooling assistance is needed for a household member’s health, or
  • Households who have a disconnect notice, have been shut off, or are trying to establish new electric service may be eligible for assistance
  • Enrolling in Percentage of Income Payment Plan Plus (PIPP) for the first time or have a PIPP default
