Woman arrested, man detained following Key Bank robbery in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD — UPDATE @ 4:08 p.m.:

Police are planning to charge a woman arrested in connection with a bank robbery.

Her name has not yet been released.

UPDATE @ 1:15 p.m.: 

A woman was arrested and a man has been detained following a bank robbery at a Key Bank branch in Springfield, according to police.

A woman reportedly entered the bank on South Burnett Road around 9:30 a.m. and demanded cash, but did not display a weapon, according to police.

Shortly after the robbery, police spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle in the robbery and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on Race Street, police said.

A woman in the car also matched the description of the alleged bank robber and was arrested.

A man in the car, who police said was her boyfriend, was also detained during the traffic stop. It was not known if he would face any charges.

Police did not immediately release the identities of either the woman or the man.

Thursday's robbery is the second bank robbery in Springfield this week. On Tuesday, a man reportedly passed a note demanding cash before fleeing the Security National Bank.

It was not known if the two robberies are believed to be connected.

Springfield police are investigating a robbery at the Key Bank on Burnett Road this morning.

The robbery was reported around 9:30 a.m. at the bank, 402 S. Burnett Rd.

Police said no weapon was used during the robbery.
