SPRINGFIELD — The City of Springfield is assuring residents that water is safe to drink after concerns following the East Palestine train derailment.
The city said in a post on its website that drinking water comes from wells buried in the Mad River Valley aquifer.
This aquifer is not impacted or threatened by the train derailment as the source is not connected to the Ohio River basin where some containments have been detected.

The city said they conduct regular testing and meet all water quality standards set by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
“Springfield’s water is safe to drink from the tap, and customers do not need to purchase bottled water,” the post reads.
