Red Cross requested after duplex fire in Sidney

SIDNEY — Firefighters responded to a fire at a two-story duplex in Sidney Saturday afternoon, according to a spokesperson for the Sidney Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

Firefighters and medics were dispatched to the 500 block of S. Main Avenue at around 2:42 p.m. and smoke was showing from the attic space when they arrived on scene.

Police officers also responded and said all occupants were out of both units, the spokesperson said.

Extensive damage was in the attic and estimated loss to the property is $30,000.

AES Ohio, CenterPoint Energy and the City of Sidney’s water department was requested to secure utilities, according to the spokesperson.

The Red Cross was requested for housing for three adults and four children of two separate families.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
