Pre-trial hearing rescheduled for Dayton father accused of shooting his son

DAYTON — A pre-trial hearing is scheduled to take place today for the Dayton father who is accused of shooting his son in an incident on Gard Avenue last September was moved to July.

The hearing was rescheduled for July 2, according to court documents.

James K. Eason is charged with three counts of felonious assault in the Sept. 20 incident, which prosecutors say stemmed from an argument.

His trial is still set for July 8.

Eason called 911 dispatchers the night of the shooting and told them what he had done, according to Montgomery County prosecutors.

“I shot my son. He’s laying on the porch,” Eason said in a 911 call obtained by this news organization.

“Hurry please.”

His 39-year-old son, who was shot in the neck, was taken to Miami Valley Hospital with serious injuries.

Eason plead not guilty to the charges on Oct. 4 and had a bond set at $250,000, records show.

He is not currently listed in Montgomery County Jail.
