Man killed in Dayton’s first homicide of 2022 identified

DAYTON — Police are investigating a deadly shooting that happened in a Dayton neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

Johnny A. Fleming, 43, of Dayton died from the shooting, according to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office and Dayton Police.

Dayton Police Lt. Jason Hall also confirmed that a dog was also reportedly shot. The dog survived and was taken into care by the Animal Resource Center.

Crews were called to respond to reports of shooting in the area of Sumac Court and Majestic Drive around 1:30 p.m., according to initial reports.

Homicide detectives are currently on the scene investigating.

Hall said the shooting is the first homicide of the year in Dayton.
