Citizen helps police make arrest during Miamisburg scuffle

UPDATE @ 1:54 p.m.:

Two men were arrested on outstanding warrants after an officer spotted the individuals at the McDonald’s restaurant on Heincke Road and a citizen helped officers catch one of them, police said.

An officer on patrol near the restaurant spotted an individual wanted on an outstanding warrant around 1:10 p.m. and after approaching the man, he tried to run, but was caught quickly, Miamisburg police Sgt. Jon Thompson said.

According to Thompson, while approaching a second man who was with the first suspect inside the restaurant and also had an outstanding warrant. the second man took off running.

After a brief scuffle, the second man also was arrested after a citizen helped police capture him, Thompson said.

“We don’t want people jumping in the middle of that stuff, because we don’t want someone getting hurt. In this case it worked out for the best,” Thompson said.

Officers called for extra assistance due to the scuffle and following the arrests police found drug paraphernalia, Thompson said.

An officer got a minor cut during the scuffle and was being checked out by medical personnel.

One of the warrants was for a theft and Thompson said he did not immediately have information on what the other warrant was for.

Police have requested a ‘signal 99’ for countywide officer assistance at the McDonalds in Miamisburg.

Scanner traffic indicates officers were fighting with a suspect when the assistance call was requested at the restaurant at 15 North Heincke Road.

Medics have also been requested for injuries sustained in the incident, but the injuries sustained were not immediately available.
