PNC workers in Miamisburg find vehicles in water

Workers at PNC bank on Newmarket Drive found their vehicles sitting in water that had invaded the parking lot during the downpour that hit the Miami Valley on Friday afternoon.

Water reached the bottom of the doors on several cars, minivans and other vehicles at the business where mortgages and financial services are offered.

Some cars had been backed up off the parking lot and up against the building to escape the water, which had begun to recede by 4:30 p.m.

"It just started raining. It was kind of like a monsoon," Shelby Shaw, who works at the PNC facility, told News Center 7's Layron Livingston.

"I said, 'Oh, there goes my car getting deeper and deeper in the water.' "

Shaw said the lot was full of vehicles and nobody knew what to do. A creek near the building was overflowing, a drain in the parking lot and water was backing up, she said.

"It was pretty deep. Somebody looked in my car and there was water coming in there," Shaw said. She agreed she wouldn't be looking forward to soggy carpets and floor boards.

News Center 7's Layron Livingston captured the scene on video.

The PNC facility was just one of the many places where vehicles -- and in some places, people -- were trapped by rapid flooding triggered by the steady rains. Flooding was reported at the Dayton Mall in Miami Twp., at Buckeye Home Health Care in Washington Twp., the recreation center on State Route 725 in Washington Twp., Springfield and elsewhere throughout the greater Dayton region.
