DAYTON — A pit bull puppy found in a trash can in December has died.
Hefty died Tuesday after suffering breathing issues that began the day before. An autopsy found that Hefty was born with a congenital lung disorder, according to a post on the Miami Valley Pit Crew’s Facebook.

“I believe that his new mobility and activity was just too much for his little lungs to keep up with,” the post read.
“Hefty” was unable to stand or use his back legs when he was rescued from the trash can because he had been kept in a small space. He had been placed in a rescue and had been improving, according to the Miami Valley Pit Crew.
