NTSB to investigate train derailment in Springfield

WASHINGTON D.C. — The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) announced Sunday they will be investigating Saturday’s derailment of a Norfolk Southern train in Springfield.

Investigators will be in the area Monday, NTSB said on social media.

Multiple agencies were dispatched near State Route 41 and Gateway Boulevard in Springfield at around 4:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon, Springfield Township Fire Chief Dave Nangle said at a news conference Sunday.

NTSB said the Federal Railroad Administration is already on site, a spokesperson told News Center 7 Sunday afternoon.

No injuries were reported following the train derailment.

The cause remains under investigation.
