Newton H.S. grad killed in Texas crash

A former Newton High School student was killed in a crash in Erath County, Texas, southwest of Fort Worth on Sunday morning.

Lyle Hussong, 26, of Pleasant Hill, was killed after a wrong-way driver struck his vehicle head-on on U.S. 281 around 2 a.m., according to the Texas Highway Patrol.

The wrong-way driver, Alex Sanchez, 21, of Stephenville, Texas, was driving north on U.S. 281 when he was travelling on the wrong-side of the highway, according to the patrol.

Sanchez’s car burst into flames and the 21-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, the patrol said.

Sanchez’s vehicle struck Hussong’s, causing Hussong’s Ford pick-up truck to roll onto its top.

Hussong was a member of the Newton High School class of 2008 and had been living in Stephenville at the time of the crash, according to his Facebook page.
