TROTWOOD — A Sinclair Community College student has received national honors from Glamour Magazine.
Shawtra Mosley, a California native, turned Trotwood resident, was one of seven woman named College Woman of the Year by Glamour Magazine.
Mosley told News Center 7′s Kayla Courvell that her boss had told her she may be getting an email from the publication, but she was still apprehensive when it arrived and said she won.
“I was like maybe this is spam or a wrong email,” Mosley said.

It was not spam. Instead, it was an email cementing her name into a tradition that spans more than six decades at Glamour. Honorees are those who make contributions on campus, in their communities and in their fields.
During this year’s presentation, which focused specifically on Community Colleges, Mosley and the other honorees were surprised with a very special guest: First Lady Dr. Jill Biden.
Mosley said she was very surprised to see the First Lady.
“I was thinking to myself ‘thank God I put lipstick on,’” Mosley said.
Mosley said she understood why Dr. Biden, who spent time talking with the honorees, was part of the event.
“She teaches at community college. She’s an advocated for community college,” Mosley said.
Mosley started taking hospitality management courses at Sinclair and said she was excited to use the spotlight on her to raise awareness for mental health. She mixes her love of food with her passion to spread mental health awareness with her blog, Tay’s Bipolar Kitchen. She told News Center 7 that she plans to continue her education and get her doctorate.
