People gathered in Springfield on Thursday night and remembered Shauna where she grew up. Dozens of people showed up to celebrate her life.

On Mother’s Day, someone shot Shauna Cameron while she was riding in a car on U.S. Route 35 in Riverside.

Along with balloons, people wore all things tie dye for Shauna.

Wilmer, who knew Shauna, said, “You’re not supposed to bury your baby. You’re not supposed to do that.” It’s a mother’s worst nightmare to lose their child.”

People shared stories, showed pictures and comforted Stacy Cameron. Earlier in the day, News Center 7′s Brandon Lewis sat down with Stacy and talked about what happened to her daughter.

“I know a lot of women who are personal friends who’ve lost children to gun violence, to overdose, to suicide, an innumerable number of women I know. I never thought I would be on this side,” Stacy said.

Stacy said her daughter was her best friend and someone who lit up a room. She said Shauna was full of life and love to sing and dance.

“That was my baby. I hope that my fruit shows that I tried my best to raise a child as a single mom,” Stacy said.

She said she plans to do some sort of outreach to try and build bridges in the community in the hope of other mothers do not have to face what she is now facing.

“I hope to see a community come together to try and minister the kids who are at risk to go to the jails to speak to the youth about who they are instead of housing them in juvenile systems,” Stacy said. “Everybody’s going through it, everybody. We’re all in this together or nah.”

Stacy said she forgives whoever pulled the trigger on Mother’s Day.

News Center 7 reached out to Riverside Police for an update on the investigation, but no response has been returned yet. Riverside Police said on Monday they did not have a motive or identified the shooter.
