MIDDLETOWN — A 9-year-old Middletown girl who had been in-and-out of the hospital over the last several months dealing with inflamed blood vessels, a brain bleed and coronavirus has died.
Dorielis Reyes died Thursday, her mother said in a post on a GoFundMe account created to assist the family with medical bills.

Reyes mother said Reyes first showed signs in May of medical issues, when “she began walking a little strange, and later began to drag one of her feet because she couldn’t walk on it.”
“I took her to the hospital because it was obviously not normal for her, she later lost movement in parts of her body and there at the hospital she was tested for Covid-19 where the results came out positive,” Reyes’ mother said.
Through a series of tests and visits to the hospital between May and July, Reyes was eventually found to have vasculitis, which is inflammation of the blood vessels.
On July 19, Reyes had an epileptic seizure and was taken to the hospital, where she entered the intensive care unit.
An MRI showed she had a brain bleed caused by the inflammation.
Middletown City Schools posted an update on Reyes on its Facebook page this morning.
“While the family grieves, we take comfort that our community rallied around them, lifted them up, and gave help with the medical bills. We hope the family finds peace,” a Facebook post from the district read.
Over $19,000 had been raised on the GoFundMe page for Reyes’ family.
