MIAMISBURG — Miamisburg is considering a designated outdoor refreshment area, or DORA, for its downtown area, according to city records.
A DORA allows for alcoholic beverages to be consumed inside the zone as long as the beverage was purchased from a business with the proper permit from the state liquor board.

The zone would include the majority of downtown Miamisburg and would include bars, restaurants, stores and other business in the downtown part of the city.
The city has 13 qualified permit holders that would likely be participants in the new DORA if approved by Miamisburg City Council.
If approved it would be in effect Monday through Friday 5pm-11pm and then on Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 11pm. It would run throughout the entire year.
Special hours could be approved by the city manager with consent from the city council.
During special events, the police department may have additional officers assigned to the areas included in the DORA.
Signage downtown also would help visitors know where the DORA begins and ends.
The application for the DORA will be heard by city council at a future date.
