A West Chester Twp. man has been chosen as the new executive director of the Miami Valley Urban League, according to a league official.
Branford Brown, an attorney, will start on Nov. 3, according to Donna Jones Baker, president of the league’s parent organization, the Cincinnati-based Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio.
“We liked his passion for the Dayton-area and for individuals who have been discriminated against,” Jones Baker said of why Brown was a good candidate for the position.
The civil rights organization plans to hold an event in Brown’s honor next month.
The executive director search started in December, a year after the Miami Valley Urban League was formed. The MVUL was created in 2012 after the the collapse of the Dayton Urban League, which shut its doors in 2010 for financial reasons.
Brown will have an office at MVUL headquarters, at The Opportunity Center, 907 W. Fifth St., in Dayton.
The Cincinnati chapter is funding the MVUL’s operations.
Brown could not be immediately reached for comment.
