TROY — Miami County Public Health’s COVID-19 clinic at Edison State Community College set for Fridays has been postponed. The health department didn’t receive it’s vaccine shipment for this week’s clinic due to severe winter weather.
The clinic was originally scheduled for Friday February 19th but instead will be rescheduled for Thursday, February 25th. For those that have appointments they do not need to call and reschedule, MCPH will contact them.
“It was frustrating we definitely got up for it,” Miami County Health Commissioner Dennis Propes said. “We got a lot of help from Edison Community College and we had that all lined up ready to go.”
Propes said they were notified late Wednesday night by the Ohio Department of Health that most of the shipments of the vaccine may not make it here this week.
This only impacts the first doses and not the second doses that the department has received. This week the department had about 600 second dose appointments.
Thursday morning the county checked its database that confirmed it wouldn’t be getting the first doses of the vaccine this week.
Next week the county will receive the 400 first doses originally scheduled for this week as well as the 300 first doses that were scheduled for next week too.
This delay comes when many people are trying hard to get vaccinated.
“When I came into work there was people here an hour early waiting for their second dose of the vaccine already on Tuesday which was a horrible day traffic wise,” Propes said. “They were very eager to get that vaccine and very happy that we didn’t cancel that clinic on Tuesday.”
The county will have about 400 appointments at its Thursday clinic at Edison State and then Friday the 26th the county will have about 300 doses at its clinic at Ginghamsburg Church in Tipp City.
“We opened up registration for that this morning and it closed in less than an hour,” Propes said. “I know it’s frustrating trying to find an appointment, we’re doing the best we can. We ask you to remain patient with us. We will get to you and we’re here for you.”
While the larger clinics are going on next week the department will also be administering its second doses at the office.
