Meyers Road fire caused by burning bacon

UPDATE at 2:55 p.m.

Cpt. Jeff Lawwill said the fire started around 10:15 a.m. in the kitchen.

Lawwill said the woman left the stove for a "few minutes," and when she returned, her kitchen was on fire.

He estimated the damage at $20,000 to $30,000.

The resident walked to her neighbor's house and called 911.

Lawwill said no one was injured in the fire. The kitchen suffered major water and smoke damages, he said.

The Madison Twp. fire department was assisted by Franklin Twp. and JEMS.

EARLIER

The delicious smell of cooking bacon was replaced with burning wood and smoke this morning, when a house caught fire in the 8000 block of Meyers Rd. in Madison Twp.

A woman in her 20s was the only one home at the time, and she was not hurt.

The damage to the kitchen and surrounding rooms was called "extensive" and the woman will not be able to go back into the home today.
