Man killed in Lebanon fire identified

UPDATE @ 11:14 a.m.

A 66-year-old Lebanon man died early Thursday in a fire caused by smoking in bed while on oxygen, according to Fire Chief Perry Gerome.

Wilson Scott Thacker was pronounced dead at the scene of the fire reported at 2:14 a.m. at 405 Kuntz Court in Lebanon.

Thacker’s mother, Madeline, managed to escape the home with help from a neighbor.

“One of the neighbors said they heard a small explosion,” Gerome said. “Obviously smoking in bed on oxygen is a bad combination.”

It was the Lebanon Fire Department’s second major fire call of the night, according to Esther Larson, a school board member in Lebanon.

“Oh my God, two in one night in our community,” Larson said Thursday morning.

Larson’s daughter, granddaughter and three dogs escaped a fire about 10 p.m. at 1204 Liberty-Keuter Road in Turtlecreek Twp., she said.

The fire heavily damaged the home. The Lebanon department assisted on this call, Larson said.
