NEW PARIS, Preble County — A 35-year-old man is booked into the Preble County Jail, hours after he was said to have drove off after hitting a child with his SUV, authorities said.
Phillip Rehmert was arrested by New Paris Police overnight on a preliminary felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident, online records show.
News Center 7 obtained a video of the hit-and-run crash through a public records request, which showed a dark colored SUV hit the child as they ran across the street in New Paris.
The child is expected to survive their injuries, law enforcement said.
We’re working to gather additional information from New Paris Police about the investigation.
Wayne County officials said Rehmert also had a warrant out for his arrest in Indiana for failing to appear in court for a felony theft charge.
