DAYTON — A Girl Scouts troop in the Miami Valley was having a hard time finding a place to sell cookies, so they came up with a unique solution.
Girl Scouts and Hooters — not a common combination.
“It’s a family restaurant, everybody’s going by the name it’s not what the name is,” Troop 3237 Parent Rhonda Miller told News Center 7′s Haley Kosik.
Miller said her daughter’s troop will be setting up at the 6851 Miller Lane Hooters in Dayton to sell cookies Feb. 20.
The troop was unable to sell cookies at Kroger last year.
A spokesperson with Kroger told News Center 7 that they no longer allow groups to sell at its stores because of COVID-19.
Girl Scouts of America has a national partnership with Walmart to allow troops to sell cookies, but Miller said two Miami Valley locations have turned away her granddaughter’s troop.
News Center 7 reached out to Walmart for a comment but has not heard back at the time of reporting.
Girl Scouts of Western Ohio spokesperson Katie Maskey said Goodwill, Lowes and Ace Hardware also give troops in our region space to sell cookies.
Maskey said troops are encouraged to set up their own cookie booths even if the location isn’t a partner.

That’s what Miller said her daughter’s troop leader did with Hooters and Maskey said the council approved.
“We always make sure that it is an appropriate place for our girls to be set up at,” Maskey said.
Miller said her daughter and fellow troop members have been trying really hard to sell cookies, despite pandemic-related setbacks.
The Hooters on-duty manager said the restaurant is very happy to help.
