2 left temporarily homeless after truck slams into their Miami County home

UPDATE @ 9:05 p.m.: The woman who lives in the Covington home on U.S. 36 West severely damaged Thursday afternoon was napping in bed with her dog when a pickup truck slammed into one of the walls, a friend said.

The woman, who declined to be interviewed, had to be rescued by firefighters because she was trapped by a refrigerator, a freezer and other items knocked over in the accident, said her friend, Linda Dill.

The woman and her brother were not injured, Dill said.

INITIAL REPORT

The driver of a pickup truck was cited for failure to control after he swerved to avoid a collision and smashed into a house in the 9400 block of U.S. 36 West, between Covington and Bradford.

Miami County Sheriff's Lt. Todd Tennant said no one was injured in the Thursday afternoon accident, but the two residents will have to stay elsewhere because of the damage done to their home.

The accident, reported about 5:30 p.m., occurred when the truck swerved to avoid hitting a car that was about to turn left into a driveway, Lt. Tennant said.

The front wall of the home was severely damaged. A Dayton Power & Light crew will have to come out to turn off the service, the lieutenant said.
