Last business affected by massive Christmas Eve fire reopens Friday in Wapakoneta

WAPAKONETA — All businesses in downtown Wapakoneta are back open after a massive Christmas Eve fire at the former Koneta Hotel.

Interior Motifs on West Auglaize Street marked its reopening Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The business is adjacent to the landmark Koneta Hotel, the apartment building hit by arson.

Police said a tenant, 19-year-old Wesley Slaughter, set the building ablaze.

Interior Motifs sustained water damage in back of the building from crews putting out the fire that displace dozens of residents.

It’s still not clear what will happen to the old Koneta building.
