DAYTON — The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office identified the human remains found in a Virginia Avenue basement as Mary Lauhon.

The 89-year-old’s remains were found Jan. 31 after 911 dispatchers received a tip about a deceased person in a Rubbermaid tub.

Someone reportedly told Megan that her grandmother was in the basement, wrapped in plastic.

The tipster was Lauhon’s granddaughter, Megan Lauhon, who lives in North Carolina.

“I’ve already called before and they thought I was crazy when I called and I wish that I was crazy,” Megan told 911 dispatchers in January.

She also told Dayton police that she thought someone was collecting her grandmother’s Social Security.

According to the coroner’s office, the remains had been in the tub for an extended period of time.

Officers do not believe the resident knew about the remains.

Police are continuing to investigate.
