Huber Heights man indicted for murder in slaying

A Huber Heights man has been indicted on several charges, including murder, in the death of his girlfriend.

Ryan D. Mitchell, 28, was indicted today on charges of murder, felonious assault, grand theft, assault, burglary, failure to stop after an accident, having weapons while under disability and failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer.

Mitchell was arrested Feb. 21 after officers responded to a home on Cree Avenue, where 26-year-old Melissa Nilson was found deceased.

The coroner's office said the preliminary cause of death indicates Nilson died of a gunshot wound.

Police said Nilson's 4-year-old child was in the home at the time.

One of the first officers to respond saw Mitchell speeding away in a silver Grand Am and began to pursue him.

Mitchell crashed into another motorist on Rip Rap Road before breaking into a nearby bar, where he was apprehended by police.
