Hospital describes suspicious object that bomb squad removed

Miami Valley Hospital said the suspicious object was a bottle wrapped in wire.

An employee found it yesterday morning in the loading dock area, near one of the emergency room entrances.

The Dayton Bomb Squad x-rayed the item and determined it did not pose any danger. They removed it and destroyed it.

A hospital spokeswoman said there was no danger to employees or patients, and the hospital did not fully evacuate.

UPDATE @11:15 a.m. OCT. 14:

A large escort of emergency vehicles left the scene with the suspicious object to destroy it. The bomb squad was on scene for about an hour.

UPDATE@8:47a.m.

A hospital employee found a "suspicious object" in the Wyoming Street docking area and called campus police around 7:30 a.m., said Nancy Thickel, MVH spokeswoman.

Dayton police and the Dayton bomb squad eventually responded and arrived on scene shortly before 8:30 a.m.

Thickel said she doesn't know what the object is. She expects the bomb squad will remove the object and destroy it.

The Dayton Bomb Squad has been called to investigate a bomb threat at Miami Valley Hospital.

A hospital spokeswoman confirmed there was a bomb threat at the hospital and that police are investigating.
