UPDATE @ 2:28 p.m.
The sign on I-70 pointing westbound motorists to the Dayton International Airport has been fixed after the newly-installed highway marker erroneously stated — to U.S. 44.
The Ohio Department of Transportation reports the sign has been fixed and now says correctly — to U.S. 40.
FIRST REPORT
A new sign installed overnight on westbound I-70 alerts drivers that U.S. 44 to the Dayton International Airport is one mile away.
There’s just one problem: U.S. 44 is nowhere close to Dayton, or even Ohio.

The sign should read U.S. 40.

“A contractor made the sign and put it up overnight,” according to Matt Bruning, spokesman for the Ohio Department of Transportation. “Our order to the contractor said ‘U.S. 40’, so we are unsure how the mistake was made.”
ODOT said they are working to temporarily cover the sign and the contractor will be required to pay for a new sign, Bruning said.
