Anger was named acting sheriff following the unexpected death of Sheriff Gene Fischer in November. Fischer died following a medical emergency while attending a conference in Sandusky.
“We’ll never fill the shoes of Gene Fischer,” Anger told News Center 7. “He’s a legacy in this county, and he’s a good friend and a mentor of mine. We love him dearly.”
Since Fischer was less than halfway through his current term as sheriff at the time of his death, Anger will have to run for election in November 2022. If elected then, Anger will fulfill the rest of Fischer’s unexpired term.
Anger said he was excited to work on some of the projects that the county already has in motion, as well as continuing the service and leadership Fischer showcased for many years.
“Being available to the public, putting victims’ rights first,” Anger said. “Doing all those kinds of things to make Greene County have a better quality of life.”
Anger thanks all the people who had been around him the last three weeks, including the staff at the Sheriff’s department. Anger said they lifted him up to help get through the difficult times.
