SPRING VALLEY — The Spring Valley United Methodist Church is introducing two therapy donkeys to its congregation.

Zeb and Elle are American Spotted Donkeys and are a part of Pastor Dar Hensley’s newest equine therapy program.

Pastor Hensley says donkeys mirror your non-verbal cues and pick up on communication. They can also sense feelings and emotions, and can work well with those who suffer from anxiety or depression.

“They’re incredibly relational and just good for the soul,” explained Pastor Hensley.

Pastor Hensley says the donkeys will only grow to be about 3 feet tall.

The donkeys will eventually assist Pastor Hensley in counseling and leadership training, but their main job is to spread joy during a time when people need it most.
