CENTERVILLE — To make sure everyone has nice holiday season, some non-profit organizations rely on donors.

As a way to help with this, “Giving Tuesday” was started 9 years ago.

Hannah’s Treasure Chest in Centerville relies daily on donations to help those less fortunate.

Volunteers at the non-profit organization are sorting and organizing thousands of presents that will be gifted to children in need this Christmas.

Sue Hill has done this for 16 years.

“What we’re doing here, today, with ‘Giving Angels,’ I have packed packages for a number of years now and the generosity this year is outstanding,” Hill said.

Executive director, Deanna Murphy told News Center 7 the pandemic has made their mission more difficult.

But days like “Giving Tuesday” help make up for their losses.

“This day is very important, especially because we’ve had no fundraisers this year, so we’re relying on today to really fill in those gaps for us,” Murphy said.

The group received a 10-thousand dollar donation and challenged the community to match that amount.

For every 15-hundred dollars donated, a staff member gets a pie to the face.

If people cannot donate money, Hannah’s says people donating their time is just as meaningful.

“Because you’re doing something for somebody else, it takes you out of yourself and your own problems and the things going on in your life in a way that you can effect somebody else’s life,” Hill said.

Hannah’s Treasure Chest has received 25-thousand dollars in donations.

Outside of the holiday season it also provides care packages of essential items to southwest Ohio families in need.
