As many as 50 Edison PreK-6 School students, staff and friends gathered Monday at the school's campus to remember two Edison students, as well as the mother of one of them.

The gathering for Jerome Davis, 7, Ms. Maria Davis, 39, and Ke'Shawn Patterson, 9, included a garden, poem and balloon launch. A tree already had been planted on school grounds as part of Monday’s memorial observance and dedication.

Jerome and his mom were killed when a car slammed into their small home on Lilac Avenue last November.

Ke'Shawn was found deceased on Christmas Day.

Jerome was a second-grader. Ke'Shawn was a third-grader. They died a month apart in 2017.

The program was designed to allow the school to add a peaceful chapter to the lives of the boys and Ms. Davis, Dayton Public Schools officials said.

Blue balloons were launched for Ke'Shawn, red for Jerome and white for his mother.

THE DAVIS CASE

The Jerome and Maria Davis case remains without closure in the criminal justice system, according to online records.

Dayton police, who said in the days after the incident that they were looking for one other person believed to have been involved that night, are now looking for the one person who was arrested that night after a brief foot chase.

The incident started when an officer patrolling the neighborhood spotted a car that immediately fled from him before he was able to conduct a traffic stop, Dayton Lt. Steven Bauer said.

The driver appeared to have panicked when he saw the officer, sped off, and crashed into the house, Bauer said. Jerome was pronounced dead at Dayton Children's Hospital. His mother died at the scene.

An arrest warrant was issued March 20 for Kesean Williams Parks, 24, of the 1300 block of Florence Street in Dayton, on charges of aggravated drug possession and carrying concealed weapons (loaded/ready at hand).

Judge Barbara Gorman issued the capias after Williams Parks failed to show up for a scheduled court appearance, according to court records.
