Vanderhorst allegedly used stole money from an “operational account funded by fees charged for real estate transactions and not public tax dollars” last year, said Clark County Auditor John Federer.

He was previously indicted on a single count of theft in office in February.

“I fired Vanderhorst the day I learned of the allegations and began an intensive internal review of operations to learn how the alleged crime was committed and to start the process of implementing additional policies and procedures that will go further to protect residents of Clark County from any future fraud,” Federer said in a statement.

Ohio Auditor of State Keith Faber and his Special Investigation Unit conducted a forensic audit and a criminal investigation with Clark County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Driscoll.

Driscoll called Monday’s indictment a “culmination of the investigation” in a statement to News Center 7.

“I believe the charges in the indictment speak for themselves and to the activities for which Mr. Vanderhost is accused. I want to thank the Clark County Auditor’s Office employee who initially discovered this issue and brought it to our attention, the investigator’s from Auditor of State, Keith Faber’s office who carried out the investigation and the members of my staff who have brought this case to where we are today,” Driscoll said.
