First day of fall: Autumn gets off to a wet start in the Miami Valley

Goodbye summer and hello fall!

As of 3:50 a.m. Monday, the season of Halloween, Thanksgiving and leaves changing colors officially started.

While the astronomical season began this morning, the fall meteorological season kicked off Sept. 1. Meteorologists base seasons off annual temperature cycles, while the astronomical seasons are based on the position of Earth related to the sun.

This year, fall got off to a wet start with showers in the morning. Things will dry out as the day goes on with temperatures topping out in the upper 70s.
